D. Kent's Obituary
D. Kent Pingel, 59, of Fort Worth, Texas, died quietly in his home in Fort Worth, Texas on Monday, January 20, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 24, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega with Ken Miller, Minister to Men at Christ Chapel Bible Church, officiating. Memorial service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at Christ Chapel Bible Church Chapel in Fort Worth. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Kent was born on February 19, 1960 in Amarillo, Texas to Wayne and Billie Pingel, and always referred to himself as their “unexpected pleasure”. He grew up on the family farm in Vega, Texas, with his hard working and sacrificial parents, three big brothers to keep up with, and one doting big sister. He always attributed his work ethic and unlimited creativity to be a “farm boy”. No one could have been prouder to be from Oldham county and he returned as often as possible throughout the years. He was a proud graduate of Vega High School, where he excelled in basketball (Go Longhorns) and Texas Tech University (Guns Up!), where he earned a degree in journalism. Oldham County Round Up was his favorite holiday! He had a quick wit, and always had a joke ready for every situation. He was kind and compassionate and made everyone he met feel like they were the most important person in the room. He loved his three kids more than anything in the world. He had a deep-rooted love for all things sports related, especially his beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders. Through the years he also enjoyed coaching basketball and little league, both in an official capacity and as an armchair quarterback. I digress…
Kent took every opportunity he had, to saddle up on his big, beautiful Triumph motorcycle and take it out on the open road. He loved a big adventure and in recent years had the opportunity to travel the world as part of his “dirty gig” job. His passions for travel and writing collided when he began his blog and became Ping Wi-Fi. He loved to tell a good story and had a way of bringing you along for the ride and making you feel as if you were right there with him. His hobbies and passions are too many to list, but included; photography, music, wood working, coffee shop sitting, people watching, finding junk and making it a treasure, taking his dog Rolf on walks or teaching him a trick, making a stranger a friend, using social media to reconnected with long lost friends, catching a little league game and of course cheering on his Red Raiders. He also loved swimming and anything to do with water and blamed it on being “swimming pool deprived” as a child. He was a long-time member of Christ Chapel Bible Church, and his faith in Jesus Christ was of upmost importance. He spent many years in Advertising, Marketing and Public Relations. He is loved and will be missed by many.
“Know what I sayin?”
