student minister for Christ Chapel Bible Church, he desired a deep and
personal relationship with Christ for every young person involved in
CCBC Student Ministry. David strove for excellence in all things.
He created a thriving and effective student ministry and mentored
hundreds of students during his 10-year tenure at Christ Chapel. He embraced an intimate relationship with Christ, and modeled that relationship to others. Many came to Christ through his ministry; many developed a deeper spiritual walk as men and women of God. David
was born May 29, 1966, to Tom and Kuniko Phillips in Lexington, Ky. He
grew up in Tucson, Ariz. He earned a degree in Japanese studies at
University of Arizona before completing seminary at Dallas Theological
Seminary, receiving a master's in divinity in 1995. David served on Young Life staff in Fort Worth before beginning vocational student ministry at Christ Chapel in 1995. David
deeply loved his wife, Jennifer. He was a loyal and devoted son,
brother, husband and friend. David enjoyed intellectual conversation of
all sorts; he was quick-witted and dry, but deeply emotional as well. His friends will miss his laser wit, humor, heart for Christ, passion for excellence and blazing smile. Survivors:
