About me:
Simul Justus et Peccator Simultaneously Justified and yet a Sinner . . . Who do I think about when I think about me? Or am I supposed to communicate what I want you to know about me? I'll opt for the first yet aquiesce the fact that doing so certainly won't preclude the second. As I engage life I am confronted by the growing duality within me. In ways, I am becoming a "better" human being but a part of becoming better is realizing how "unbetter" I truly am. And the gulf of this "unbetter" realization grows faster than my ability (inability) to become better. This is a perfect place to be. This growing, shadowy chasm brings pangs of pain but is immediately supplanted by joy in the grace which seamlessly sustains me. Or as Luther put it: I leave it to the orators to explain, and expand upon, this topic of the inestimable grace and glory that we have in Christ Jesus, namely, that we miserable sinners, by nature children of wrath (Eph. 2:3), may arrive at this honor, that through faith in Christ we are made children and heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ (Rom. 8:17), lords of heaven and earth.
Who I'd like to meet:
Bono, John Piper, George Bush, Tim Keller and Chris Farley

Hey David - Hope all's well with you in Texas. I see you like Hanson as well. Hmmm..
Anyway, wanted to let you know the new record is finshed and available at my myspace. You can listen to a few new songs there as well. (Its at Grimey's in Nashville too, but...)
Since I am without a record label any more this is a very grass roots thing. So please spread the word. You and others like who have shown support are the roots.
And, we've recently been added to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's top friends. See for yourself: myspace.com/blackrebelmotorcycleclub ... guess they like us.

Fighting, scratching & never saying die - TS

p.s. - I know its a long shot, but if you're around Nashville we're playing Sept 7, 10 pm @ 3rd & Lindsley, & Sept 15, 9 pm @ Belmont University.

This entire experience has been a rollercoaster of bitter sweet. Dave, you had such an impact on my life. The Lord used you in my life and countless others to futher the kingdom and all for his glory. I find it truly amazing that the last time I was privilged to hear the Lord use you to speak was on Heaven, and how incredible it is, incredible because of Christ, and now you are there, praising endlessly, you made it home! The Lord is absolutely incredible, that so many of us are also using your last sermon as a comfort in this situation, proving all the more that this was an intricate part of the Lord's plan. thanks for serving ceaselessly, for encourgaging me to be in ministry, finding a scholarship to allow me to be in the ministry and just for your example of Christ's love. "Well done, my good and faithful servant"

This is from Troy, Sunny and Preston

What an awesome and appropriate sermon. I had just finished reading the following words from CS Lewis' Mere Christianity when I learned of David's death:

No possible degree of holiness or heroism which has ever been recorded of the greatest saints is beyond what He is determined to produce in every one of us in the end. The job will not be completed in this life; but He means to get us as far as possible before death.

My how far God had gotten David before his death. How I long to be taken home with God on my heart and on my tongue as David was.

I pray that his life will continue to impact people for Christ even beyond his death.

Please post this for me on David's comments

Thanks
Troy
Kendel

david - my friend. I miss you deeply already - you meant so much to me, and yet there is a profound sense of genuine happiness in my heart as I think about you drinking up the eternal delights of being in the presence of our king Jesus. I've loved serving Him with you in this life and just want to sit next to you at staff meeting in the eternal kingdom - laughing, thinking, loving, cutting shoe laces off, whatever. I miss you but I'll see you soon.

David,

You were an inspiration to me in the way that you lived your life for Christ. You taught me so much about the Lord and about life. You are still teaching me with the sermon you posted here. Amazing.

We love you and miss you, but you are having a wonderful time with your Lord. Sing extra loud for me! You will always be in our hearts. Thanks for your beautiful example.

I'm blown away by the news today.... I just left him a comment last night about wanting to be a leader for a ski trip next year. My heart goes out to david's wife & family. He truly was amazing. Dave helped me out on numerous occasions when I was going to school in Fort Worth. I will always be appreciative of his Christ-like example, his great sense of humor, and His passion for life. He really was ready to go. His passing has really made me take a long look at my own life & my own mortality. I praise God for people like David. He has really blessed so many people. I pray that my life impacts even just a fraction of those that he has touched.

David,

You truly are amazing.

Thanks for being such an awesome person. Your love for Christ really stood out with all your actions.

My prayers are with you, Jen, your families and Christ Chapel.

p.s. How's it up there in Heaven??? I bet it's indescribable.
Ron

Feb 19 2006 5:18P

David,
Your passion for Christ was so transparent!!! I am fortunate to have known you and feel privileged to consider you a friend. My hope is that Christ will be glorified in your death and that it would point many people to the wonder and majesty of Jesus Christ. Thanks for challening so many to go to the deeper things of God. We will miss you. Delight in the King, Dave.

Enter into the joy of your Master

The last time I saw you was a Thursday...about 3 weeks ago... I had just gotten into the car for my mom to take me home and u pulled up, I wanted to stop and talk to you, but my mom was embarrassed because she wasn't wearing any makeup and so she drove ahead. My fingers are at a standstill at what to type, too many thoughts are rushing through my head. Although you are gone, Dave, you will always be in our hearts along with Jen and your entire family. We love you so much and it is so awesome to know that you are in Heaven and regretless.
yeah, good one...

Feb 19 2006 5:07P

I don't know what not to say about David. Christ raidiated through him in all he did. His priority and his identity was in Christ. He was such an encouragement to me and to many others who knew him. Just the other day he recommended some books to me and he kept me filled in about Guatemala because he remembered how much I loved it and that I was sad I couldn't go this year. To his family, may God's love surround you. He is now seeing Christ face to face! We grieve his death but we honor his life and we rejoice in the power of Christ in it. Bye Dave. Thanks for showing us the beauty of Christ. We can't wait to see you on that blessed day in heaven.

You can't think of David Phillips without thinking of the excellence and fervor with which he pursued everything, especially his relationship with Christ--and by extension, his relationship with his students and wife. See the sermon, posted above. They were what he talked about and loved. We'll all miss him.

And if you can get on MySpace in heaven, I'll be seeing you, Dave. It was a blessing to know you here.
Luke

Feb 19 2006 12:18P

David, I guess I just wanted to say what I didn't say earlier, and that's that I love you, my brother and I will be praying for your friends and family. We know you are in heaven rejoicing with your Christ!
Kendre

Feb 19 2006 9:42A

Dave...... it's hard to believe you're gone. It seems so surreal but it's a relief to know that you're now with the One that brought you so much joy as you lived your life for Him. You touched innumerable lives, just one of them being mine. From your talks, to hanging out at Belize, to other Christ Chapel trips.. I'll never forget the times that I was able to spend with you. You're an amazing guy with a great heart, my prayers go out to your family and loved ones. Thanks for the positive advice and impact you had on my life. I love you,
